Dear Friends of Holyrood

For more than half a century, Holyrood School has provided generations of Edmonton families with quality educational programs.  Holyrood has established a tradition of excellence in student achievement, maintained high standards of conduct and citizenship, and is well known for its superb music program and outstanding student presentations.

In the mid 1970s, with the introduction of one the Edmonton Public Schools’ first French Immersion programs, together with the Ukrainian International Bilingual Program and followed shortly after with the introduction of French as a second language programming, Holyrood entered the realm of global education and we’ve never looked back!  

To help our students develop a better understanding of their world, we have been officially partnered with Pierre Mendes School, which is located just outside the city of Rouen in north-west France.

The combination of excellence, high standards, and Holyrood’s capacity to foster creativity and talent, together with the advantages that second language learning provides, Holyrood students leave well prepared to begin their role as citizens in their global community.

In June of 2008, work started on a major, eight million dollar, modernization and renovation of our school.  With the work completed, our students now enjoy a new (and bigger gymnasium), a spacious new library, a videoconferencing suite, an upgraded music facility, three new kindergarten classrooms and a centrally located school office. A complete replacement of the school’s heating, ventilation, electrical and plumbing systems has been completed providing us with much more efficient systems (most of our hot water is heated through solar power!). Our computer lab space has been replaced by a wireless network, laptop computers and a mobile lab.

The partnership of the home and school working in harmony to provide quality educational experiences and opportunities has long been a hallmark of Holyrood School.  Over the years, school staff and parents have worked to build and maintain a school culture that strives for high standards in student achievement and citizenship, and provides opportunities for success for each student.  We celebrate our successes together and we face our challenges united!
