LEARNING
We believe
-
Children can learn and should be provided the opportunity to learn.
-
Children are unique individuals and have different strengths and needs.
-
Children learn at different paces and in different modes.
-
Children are responsible for their actions and their learning.
-
Children learn best by being actively involved in their learning.
-
Children need to learn to work cooperatively.
-
Mistakes are learning experiences.
-
We educate the whole child by developing their intellectual, social, emotional, physical and cultural capabilities.
-
Through the opportunities we provide, children experience the joy of learning.
-
Learning is a life-long process for everyone.
SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
We believe
-
Our school climate is positive, caring and cooperative.
-
Our school climate encourages people to take risks and achieve success.
TEAMWORK
We believe
-
Staff, students, parents and the community are partners in learning.
-
Staff, students, parents and the community need to maintain close communication.
-
Cooperation among the home, the school and the community is essential.
-
The entire staff works as a supportive and cohesive team.
At Holyrood School, we believe:
- Teaching and learning are the most important activities in our school, and no one has the right to interfere with these.
- Everyone should be treated with dignity, respect and fairness.
- Everyone should feel safe and be safe.
- Students are responsible for their own behavior.
Our school-wide student behaviour plan is based on having students take responsibility for their actions. Pro-active programs (e.g., our school's student leadership, positive recognition, and character education programs) and taking advantage of "teachable moments" that appear throughout the school year, provide opportunity for students to learn about appropriate behaviour and good citizenship. In brief, our plan expects that should a student choose to misbehave, he or she will be expected to accept responsibility for his or her behaviour, reflect on its consequences, and examine alternative ways to behave. Our plan is flexible. The fashion in which misbehaviours are dealt with and the consequences that may be applied depends on the severity and the nature of the misbehaviour.
The Holyrood Lunch Program is a service provided to students and their families and operates on all school days. Inquiries about the lunch program can be made by phoning the Lunch Program Coordinator at 466-2292 between the hours of 12:45 p.m. & 1:30 p.m. Students in the lunch program will have up to 25 minutes to eat their lunch, after which time they will clean up and then will be sent outside. Please ensure your child is properly attired for the weather conditions (e.g., rain or snow). The time spent outside will be adjusted according to the weather conditions.
The fees are $16.00 per month per student for full time lunchers. For families with three or more children, the monthly family fee is $40.00
Students making use of the lunch program on an occasional basis will be charged $2.00/day if paying by cash. Lunch program tickets for occasional users may be purchased from the general office program office at a cost of 10 tickets for $20.00.
We recommend that lunch program tickets be used instead of cash!
It is expected that all students, while attending Holyrood School or participating in school sponsored activities, will wear clothing that reflects a standard of acceptability, as interpreted by the school ("spaghetti straps" and midriff revealing tops, "short" shorts, t-shirts with inappropriate graphics or text do not meet the standard of acceptability) and that all clothing worn to school, including footwear, be appropriate for the activity and the weather conditions. Should a student's choice of dress not meet the school's standard of acceptability or appropriateness and other clothing not be available at school, parents will be contacted and the student will be sent home to change.
